Defiant children seem to be all over the place every where you look. So what are the signs of a child who is defiant? And what are some tips to help those parents combat these problems? Though these are not all the answers hopefully it will help out a few parents.
First the signs your child may have ODD, or Oppositional Defiant Disorder. If they argue all the time with adults, throw temper tantrums, of show signs of active defiance these are all signs. But there are more still. Refusing to listen to rules, deliberately trying to make people upset, blaming their behavior on others, and seeking revenge.
But don't fear there are ways you can combat these problems. If you've not noticed the behavior until age six you still have enough time to hopefully get them out of this defiant behavior before they get too old. But if it's later you steps that you take will have to be quicker and much tougher.
Get them into see a parent coach with a strong mental health background, and even if needed.
A dual approach with both of these steps may be needed in the older child. Because if they continue this defiant behavior there will be so many problems in their future.Take your defiant child to the doctor and see if there is medicine that will help. Some types of medicines may cause many side effects that you don't like. So this process may take a while to see which medicine will work the best for your child.
Finally, don't give up on your child. It's easy as they get older to just feel like washing your hands of this defiant child. But keep showing them you love them, eventually with all these things working together you should notice a change.
